This week we started new classes. I'm taking two classes so I'm in class from 8am to 2pm, which isn't the most fun. The first class is Comparative Political Economy, which is actually pretty interesting so far. Its nice to be learning about our economy and why it is the way that it is right now. Plus our professor, who teaches at UGA, is really smart and great at explaining concepts. I think I'm going to get a lot out of his class. My second class is Contemporary Issues in Global Politics. Our professor is also very intelligent, he is fluent in about 8 languages, but he also has a thick Slovenian accent so its really hard to understand him sometimes. The information is hard to follow too because of his teaching methods, but I hope to learn more next week.
Monday after class I went to the grocery store and caught up on things from the weekend. Tuesday after class, a group of us went downtown and saw the Capitular Library of Verona (Biblioteca Capitolare di Verona). It is considered one of the oldest libraries in Europe and has books in it that are older than our country. They told us all about how the monks would hand write these books on sheep skin in Verona and how long it would take them to write. The pages were so detailed and the writing was virtually perfect. Its cool that Verona has stuff like this and that we get to see it. Tuesday night 9 girls had a pot-luck dinner of pasta, chicken and salad. It was delicious and we went out to celebrate St. Patty's day that night. Wednesday I took a long nap and went to a kick-boxing class in the gym downstairs. I've never taken that class but it was fun!
Not the most exciting week, but today I leave for Amsterdam! There are only 3 of us on this trip which will be different. It'll be nice because our usual group is spliting up but we'll all come back with lots of stories! Pray for safety again, please!!
I've already been in Europe for 4 weeks and I can't believe it! I was thinking about the book Eat, Pray, Love today and how it was such a fun read. Then I got to thinking about the title and realized that I want the rest of my time here to be about those 3 words. I want to eat European food and enjoy every bite... I want to pray for Italy, the Italians, Verona and my group of students... and I want to love- love Europe, love Italy, love the Italians, and love my classmates. So, pray that I won't get wrapped up in silly things like school (although it is important, I know) but that I can be 100% here in Europe and that I can be used while I am here.
Thanks for all of your love and support!
With all my love,
Rebecca Rose
PS I'm working on making a photo album site for you to see all my pictures! Hope to get to that next week!!
